Know your enemy…

Why is it that people can not find happiness or success in their dreams?  Though there are numerous personal reasons, a major factor is the living environment itself.  That major challenge is the negative, cynical attitudes of other people. These people are not your enemies, they are friends, even family members. Well, a couple might be your enemy, but that is besides the point.

If our friends and family are negative towards our dreams or aspirations . . . our friends and family can keep us from reaching our goals.

You get excited about the possibility of a new job, a new idea, or a new image. You decide to give up smoking, lose weight, see the opportunity to better your life or rise to a personal challenge.

Then you tell your friends or family about your plan, and you hear . . . “You can’t do that” . . . along with a list of all the problems and challenges as to why you will never make it happen.

Your enthusiasm disintegrates. You begin to have some self doubt creep into your dream which diminishes that fire and self-confidence and you begin to think of all the reasons why you can’t make it, instead of the reasons that you can.

Remember, the world is full of these people that will tell you all the things you cannot do or cannot be. Why? Because they do not have what it takes to succeed and they do not want you to prove them wrong. Do not listen to them!

If you have a dream, make it happen. Do not let anyone take that faith you have in yourself to make things happen.

If you have that flame of a dream deep down inside you somewhere, do something about it, and don’t let anyone else diminish it.

Believe you can, and you will find you can.

Just do it! You will be surprised how many good things can happen to you!

After the Battle…

Most of the time, I practice what I preach, but it was not always that way. I have fought battles and won and I have fought battles and lost. I have wimped out and let some battles dictate how I felt and interacted with the world. A few of these battles cost me dearly and with some, I almost paid the ultimate price.

I know personally about making stupid choices in life and I know personally about addictions. I know the feelings of isolation, of loneliness, of rage and of envy. I know how it feels to lose people close to you and I have lived in times where you could not break down my walls with dynamite. But I survived….I survived and learned.

I still have my issues, just like every human being on this planet, and I still have to battle some of these issues on a daily basis, but I do battle them. I have reached the stage where nothing and no one will bring me down. It is a place where at times I can find peace within myself, acceptance of both my strengths and weaknesses, and own a genuine connection to what is around me. Some days I just sit and enjoy the benefits of winning battles, knowing I did my best and persevered the onslaught of all the shit that life threw at me. Other days, I awake, knowing a battle will ensue and prepare my self for war. During these times, I fight well, and at the end of the day, I sit knowing I did my best no matter the outcome.

This is how we not only survive life, but grow with life. It is here we exercise our endurance, fine tune our mind and spirit and begin to see and understand that we do have what it takes to create whatever life we want to own.

I own these tools and so do you. Use them.

Superficially Profound…somewhat…

Some of the most asked questions since the beginning of intellectual existence are: “Why am I here?” , “Why was I born?” and ” What is the true meaning of life?” Unfortunately, we may never know the truth. Besides, what the hell does one need with those types of answers. The number of philosophies attempting to answer these questions is innumerable and mostly redundant. They are born from biological, spiritual, psychological, scientific, and theological weaknesses.  Here is a very simplistic list:

A biological thought is that the meaning of life is procreation. Expanding the human race and connecting and filling the needs of humanity. Reproducing like cockroaches in the face of dwindling resources leaves this theory somewhat superficial. One just needs to watch the world news.

A theological thought advances dedication to ones religion, connecting with a higher power, completing the requirements that their beliefs manifest as beneficial to humanity. We all need to blame our misfortunes on something.

A psychological thought towards life is that life is to be enjoyed and is based on the pleasure principle. Thank you, Sigmund. Expanded by Maslow and Rogers, the pleasure principle became one of an individual’s potential and purpose of life. I could go along with this one.

An existentialist encompasses the idea that we create our own existence by choices. We become what we are by the choices and decisions we make. This I agree with. You are where you are in life due to those decisions and choices you have made.

A humanistic approach is that our existence is one of helping others by ending the pain and suffering of humanity. Not a bad concept, but unrealistic. On the small scale, it succeeds, on a larger scale, it will be survival of the fittest.

Other conceptualizations include our needs to help society with our work, to discover new and exciting technology and that there is no meaning of life.

But the truth is, we exist in our own personal world, tweaking our lives, our potentials and our connectedness to what coexists in our own small environment, hoping we have made the right choices, picking ourselves up when we do not and learning through attrition.

I do realize that I do not have any answers when it pertains to the meaning of life, other than how I live my own existence, which I try keep as simple, as humanistic and as spiritual as I can possible make it. We each have our roads to walk and our obstacles to overcome, but along the way, we will find places to rest beneath large trees, to sit quietly and feel the cool, refreshing breath of the wind and feel the encompassing warmth of ol’ Sol. Enjoy these times and let your mind and body absorb the peacefulness. And remember that not all answers are important.

What Is Life?…

“What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset.”…Ute Prayer

Please…Stop the F’n Whining….

I received this email and liked it, so, I am putting it on my blog:

Let me ask you some questions:

Do you live in a place where you sit and watch your child slowly die because there is no food to fill her bloated stomach?

Do you live in a place where ignorant thugs walk into your church and shoot the congregation?

Do you live in a place where your daughter can be killed because of “honor”?

Do you live in a place where your home is bombed by the government or radical insurgents?

No?….

Then stop your damned whining. “I don’t have money for a new I-pod.” “I hate my job.” “I can’t take a vacation this year.”…”woe is me. My life sucks.”

“Think I will just go get stoned or drunk…or rob somebody because I am too much of a loser to be a real human being.”

Get the Hell over it. Stop with the self pity and begin to value what you do have.

You are NOT starving, you are NOT being persecuted, you are not confined to a miserable existence.

You have things that many other envy. You have freedom, you have food, you have the opportunity to better your life and you have the gifts of family or friends.

Granted, there are things in this country that could be improved on. Like a government that operates efficiently, or a lower crime rate, or more jobs. But overall, you DO NOT have it all that bad.

Personally, I hate listening to people whine about shit that is only important to their own self indulgence. You want a better life? Then get off your ass and make it better. Stop blaming others for your own lack of motivation and take responsibility for your own choices and actions.

You can have any type of life you want. All you have to do it work for it. You work towards that goal and you will reach it.

So, either grab onto life or shut the hell up!

Eric, I totally agree with you. This is the same sermon I have been preaching for years, but unfortunately, it flies over the heads of many people and lands out in the back forty, lost forever. The message is simple. If you do not like your life, change it. It is just that simple. Thanks for the email…Preacher

The Fog of Living…

Normally ambitious and having talents, people who lack direction waste their time and talents. Because there is no clear road map, people tend to drift through life, feeling frustrated and dissatisfied with their lives. This lack of direction can be the result of reaching a cross-road in their lives and not knowing what to do next. Ask yourself these questions:

  • Do you become easily bored?
  • Have you had numerous careers in your life?
  • Are you frustrated, bored and unhappy in life?
  • Do you feel that you drift along without direction?
  • Do you feel that life is passing you by and you do not know how to re-engage?

DO NOT feel alone. The problem for many people today seems to be that the majority of them live without a sense of purpose. There is no direction in their lives and spent their lives living day to day, trying desperately to find happiness and a sense of worth in who they are and what they are doing. People may very well have dreams and goals, but without direction, they are not going to be able to fulfill these desires. Why? Because they do not know what they want.

Anything that causes stress, anger or sadness is an obstacle that is delaying you from achieving your goal and needs to be ended. This not only means a change in the way you think, but also in the way you live everyday life. From getting the proper rest, eating the proper foods, getting exercise and do something that you truly love doing, everyday. And give it 100% of your time, energy and commitment. You will not get those things your desire until you know what they are and how to reach them.

Every single action you take and every bit of energy you spend should be contributing towards achieving your goals in life.

To finish up here so you can be to reflect on your new direction, here is what you need to do:

Sit and reflect quietly and try to define what you want out of the time you have left. What do you really want out of life and how will you get them? And give 100% to every step you will make to reach your destination.  It may take time and it may be difficult to focus, but the effort will be well worth your your commitment.

Accept it or Change it…

Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresea, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.” –Life’s Little Instruction Book

I realize that I am sounding like one of those old timey preachers or a broken record, whichever the case may be, but the topic is important to those who need or want to enjoy life to it’s fullest.  This sermon/recording is about change. No matter if we want change or try to avoid change, change will happen. Nothing stays the same. Spiritually, emotionally or physically. Change is happening right now, as you sit, reading this. Some change we have little or no control over. The process of growing old can not be stopped, but the physical change and the emotional change of growing old can be tweaked. We can face our progression through time with a positive attitude and a healthy lifestyle. We cannot turn back the hands of time.

The problem lays with the fear we have for change. Something new and different. Right now, many people are living their lives, regretting about past choices and looking into the future, wishing for better outcomes. But in reality, they are living in this moment. They have become so accustomed to this looking back and wishing forward that it has become second nature and to change their lives is scary and many people will choose to live their lives this way because they carry fear inside of them.  Instead, some will simply exist, pretending they are “content” with life, while others will abuse drugs and alcohol, thinking they are living life to the fullest by numbing their bodies and minds.  And some will take the chance to improve the life they are living now.  Which one will you be?

For those who want to live better, to wake each morning, refreshed and connected with themselves in body, mind and spirit, then begin now.

  1. Get enough restful sleep.

  2. Eat a nutritional breakfast

  3. Get some exercise, whether it is going to a gym or just talking a brisk walk.

  4. Find time to be alone and reflect. Meditation, yoga or just sit and watch the sunset.

  5. Dare to dream.

We have heard this many times from many people and still, many do not get it. Some are not ready and others are too lost. You have but one life to live and you need to live it to its full potential. Go far, take chances and live passionately.

Begin now to live your life or accept what you have now and deal with it. It is your choice.
